JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 2: Important Dates

Event Date
Round 2 Seat Allotment Result Released
Last Date for Online Reporting July 3, 2026 (5:00 PM)
Last Date to Respond to Document Queries July 5, 2026 (5:00 PM)

What Should Students Do After Round 2 Seat Allotment?

Candidates who have received a seat for the first time in Round 2 must:

  • Accept the allotted seat.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee.
  • Complete online reporting before 5 PM on July 3.

Failure to complete these steps within the deadline may result in cancellation of the allotted seat.

Document Verification: Important Update

During online reporting, if the verification authorities find any missing or incorrect documents, candidates will receive a query.

Students must respond to these document queries before 5 PM on July 5, 2026.

If they fail to respond within the given deadline, their allotted seat will be cancelled automatically.

OBC & EWS Certificate Issue: Why Were Some Seats Cancelled?

According to counselling experts, several candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL and EWS categories failed to upload valid category certificates issued after April 1, 2026 during the first round.

As a result:

  • Their Round 1 category-based allotments were cancelled.
  • They received seat cancellation letters on their JoSAA candidate portal.
  • In Round 2, these candidates have been allotted seats under the Open (General) Category based on their merit.

These students must complete online reporting again to confirm their newly allotted seat.

Dual Document Verification for Students Changing Institutes

Students who moved:

  • From IIT to NIT, or
  • From NIT to IIT

during Round 2 will undergo dual document verification.

Their documents uploaded during Round 1 will be re-verified before confirming the newly allotted seat.

Students Upgraded Within the Same Institute Category

Candidates who selected the Float or Slide option and received:

  • IIT to IIT upgrade
  • NIT to NIT upgrade

do not need to upload documents again.

Their previously verified documents will remain valid, and the new seat will be confirmed automatically.

Can Students Keep Their Round 1 Seat?

No.

If a candidate is allotted a new seat in Round 2 through Float or Slide, the previous Round 1 seat is automatically forfeited.

Students cannot reclaim the earlier allotted seat.

Can You Change Float, Slide or Freeze After Round 2?

Yes.

Candidates can still modify their willingness option after each counselling round:

  • Float → Slide
  • Float → Freeze
  • Slide → Freeze

This allows students to continue participating in further rounds according to their preference.

JoSAA 2026 Seat Withdrawal Process

Students who no longer wish to continue in JoSAA Counselling can withdraw after Round 2.

While withdrawing, candidates must provide a reason such as:

  • Expected better college or branch.
  • Admission already secured in another institute.
  • Planning to appear for JEE Main 2027.
  • Other personal or academic reasons.

Seat withdrawal is allowed up to the 5th round of counselling.

After withdrawal, the remaining fee will be refunded after deducting the ₹5,000 counselling processing fee.
