Published on: November 06, 2024

Hello Students, The website for the prestigious JEE Advanced 2025 exam has been released. This year, the exam will be conducted by IIT Kanpur. A major update has been announced for JEE Advanced 2025 – now, a student can appear for the JEE Advanced exam three times within three years, compared to the previous limit of only two attempts. This change will give many students an additional opportunity to try for admission to IITs.

As you know, the JEE Main exam is the eligibility test for JEE Advanced. Based on JEE Main results, the top 2.5 lakh students will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Students who passed their class 12 exams in 2023, 2024, or 2025 will be able to appear for JEE Advanced in 2025.

Eligibility Criteria For JEE Advanced 2025

Candidates must meet each of the five eligibility criteria outlined below to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.

Criterion A1 - Performance in JEE (Main) 2025

To be eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2025, candidates must perform well in the JEE (Main) 2025 exam, specifically in the B.E./B.Tech. Paper (Paper I). Only the top 2,50,000 candidates (across all categories) will be shortlisted for JEE (Advanced) based on their JEE (Main) results.

Criterion A2 - Age Limit (Criterion A2)

Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2000. There is an age relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, who are eligible if they were born on or after October 1, 1995.

Criterion A3 - Number of Attempts (Criterion A3)

Candidates can attempt the JEE (Advanced) exam a maximum of three times within three consecutive years. This rule ensures that candidates have limited opportunities and that they must use each chance wisely.

Criterion A4 - Appearance in Class XII (or Equivalent) Examination

  • The eligibility also depends on the year a candidate appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) exams with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.

  • Candidates should have appeared in Class XII for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025.

  • Candidates who appeared for the first time in 2022 or earlier are not eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2025, regardless of the subjects they took.

  • Special Clause for Class XII Results

For students whose Class XII results for the 2021-2022 academic year were declared on or after September 21, 2022, they are eligible to apply for JEE (Advanced) 2025, provided they meet all other criteria.

  • However, if the results were declared before this date, but an individual’s result was withheld, they will not be eligible.

Criterion A5 - Earlier Admission at IITs

Candidates are ineligible for JEE (Advanced) 2025 if they:

  • Have previously been admitted to an IIT under any academic program listed in JoSAA’s 2024 Business Rules.

  • Accepted an IIT seat through online or in-person reporting in previous years, even if they did not continue in the program.

There are some exceptions to this rule:

  • The candidates who were allocated a seat in an IIT through JoSAA but did not report “online” OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.

  • However, in all of the above cases, the candidate is also required to fulfil the conditions mentioned from Criterion A1 to Criterion A4.

Meeting all these criteria is essential for candidates aiming to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025. The JEE Advanced eligibility process ensures that only qualified, prepared, and committed students have the opportunity to compete for a place in the prestigious IITs. By fulfilling these requirements, candidates can embark on their journey toward a future at one of India’s premier engineering institutes.
